ZOUZIBABE
Brussels-based DJ and programmer, Zouzibabe has always been drawn to music that makes people move without having to think too much about it. Her sets wander freely between warm and groovy house, bouncy breaks, deeper cuts and the occasional pop moment, with R&B running deep through everything she plays. She likes a little bit of funk, a good vocal, a bassline you can feel in your chest. Most importantly, she cares about the energy of a room.
Her approach is instinctive and playful. She doesn't like putting too many rules around what belongs together and would rather follow where the music takes her. She doesn’t think too much in terms of genres when she plays, and likes letting one track naturally lead to the next. Sometimes that means going somewhere unexpected; sometimes it just means finding the right track at the right time. Either way, she likes keeping things warm, groovy and moving.
Over the years, she has played across the clubs that have shaped her musical life: from La Cabane, where she was a resident, to C12, Fuse, UMI and Traum, as well as Belgian festivals including Paradise City, Horst, Listen!, Dour and Pukkelpop. In the last years, she has taken her music further afield, with stops at Good2U, Onder De Radar and iota, as well as a trip to Zanzibar to play for Butik. She is also regularly heard on the radio, hosting her monthly ‘Kiosk My Ass’ show on Kiosk Radio and appearing on Rinse France, Refuge Worldwide, Operator Radio and Gimic.
Music programming has been an equally important part of her journey. She currently contributes to the programming of Brussels festival Fifty Lab, after spending eight years at Paradise City. She previously co-founded and ran the feminist collective rebel, creating parties and initiatives around safer and more inclusive nightlife in Belgium. Being on both sides of the booking process has made her particularly interested in the little puzzle of putting artists, music and people in the right place at the right moment.
